Sales of Mahindra’s popular utility vehicle, the Bolero have seen a downward trend off late. This is down to the rising competition from both local as well as global rivals. Mahindra, though, is looking to turn things around for the Bolero with a new model. The latter is expected to go on sale before September, followed by a sub-4 metre Bolero.

Given that it will only be a facelift, expect minor cosmetic upgrades like a smaller tailgate handle, amber coloured tail lamps and mildly tweaked bumper design at front and rear. Similarly, the interior will also come with a revised dashboard and upgraded upholstery to freshen up the cabin. Overall, the Bolero has always had a rugged appeal and Mahindra has no plans to change that. This new model will continue with its age-old profile.

The new Bolero will be powered by the familiar 2523cc mHawk m2DiCR engine with 63bhp of power. Paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox, the engine has been tuned for efficiency and as a result, returns a decent fuel efficiency of 15.96kmpl.

It looks like the booming sub-4 metre SUV segment will get yet another contender and yes, it could be a shortened version of the Bolero. The car is expected to be launched around the same time as the regular facelifted model. Mahindra is expected to shave over 150mm from both front and rear overhangs to make the Bolero eligible for the lower tax bracket and in turn, make it more affordable for the rural markets where it’s already a popular buy.
