After leaving behind the country’s largest vehicle maker Tata Motors in the domestic passenger vehicle segment, the country’s largest utility vehicle maker Mahindra & Mahindra is all set to repeat this feat in the neighboring Sri Lankan market in the coming year.

As per a recent statement given by an M&M official, the company is planning to surpass the Tata Motors passenger vehicle sales in Sri Lanka over the period of next two years. The difference between the sales of both of these companies is just a few thousand units in this Island country. At present, Sri Lanka is the largest exporting market for M&M; however, the company is behind in number from Tata Motors.

Speaking to the reporters, Mr. Pradeep Kumar, Mahindra & Mahindra vice-president (international operations for automotive and farm equipment sectors) said, "We hope that in the next two years, we become No 1 in auto (segment) in Sri Lanka. We should be able to overtake them (Tata Motors) in a few years time."

In the current financial year, the company is planning to sell a total of 15,000 vehicles in Sri Lanka as compared to 11,000 vehicles sold in the country in last fiscal.
