Mahindra Scorpio has been one of the top seller in the SUV segment in India. Mahindra, one of the key players in the Utility Vehicle segment had launched the Scorpio in Automatic Transmission option sourced from Drivetrain Systems International (DSI) back in July this year. This time around, sources have indicated that the company has been planning on introducing six-speed automatic transmission in Scorpio that has been sourced from Japanese supplier, Aisin Seiki that currently serves the newly launched XUV500 Automatic sibling.

The new gearbox features new generation torque converter that is aimed to provide smooth gear shifts with reduced transmission losses. With this, the company claims to receive two overdrive gear ratios with six-speed transmission that are optimised to deliver better fuel efficiency figures. Speaking more on the occasion, Hemant Sikka, Executive Vice President & Chief Purchasing Officer, Automotive and Farm Sectors said to sources, “A transmission similar to the one used in the XUV500 can be adapted in the Mahindra Scorpio in the future. With Aisin, we have gone for a long-term relationship. Going ahead, our first preference will be Aisin for all our new projects, depending on their torque values.”

Sources have also indicated that the company may introduce six-speed automatic gearbox by Aisin sometime later next year as currently has does have some inventory from Drivetrain Systems International (DSI) left with them. The pricing aspect for the model with new gearbox could likely remain the same as the current automatic one, changes if any could be known at a later date.
