Mahindra & Mahindra, the largest utility vehicle maker of the country, has officially announced its plans to introduce Reva e2o electric model in the Indian auto market. Reportedly, the model will sparkle at the Indian shores on March 18 and will come as a replacement for the ongoing Reva electric car. According to sources, the model is produced at the company’s new production unit in Bangalore. As per company, this plant has a potential of rolling out 30000 units annually. It must be noted that price of the upcoming electric car is yet to be disclosed, but industry experts believes that the auto maker will place it in between Rs. 5 lakhs and 6 lakhs. On its upcoming model, Mahindra said that e2o will feature the next generation Lithium Ion batteries and “will have a range of 100 km on a full charge, which is suitable for most urban commuters today.”

Expressing his views on the launch of the company’s much awaited model, the President (Automotive & Farm Equipment Sectors) of M&M, Pawan Goenka was quoted as saying, “Electric vehicles today epitomise clean and green driving and Mahindra wants to take the lead in developing this segment and its surrounding eco-system. We sincerely hope that such an initiative will find the desired support and incentives from all governmental agencies that will support us in this journey of providing clean mobility solutions.”

Coming to under-the-hood figures of 2013 Mahindra Reva e2o, the model will come equipped with an electric engine, which will churn out power from its 48-volt lithium ion batteries. Interestingly, average of this model is further augmented with its Sun2Car solar technology, which will come as a boon for the daily commuters of the country, who are recently hit by the increased petrol prices.

The launch of Mahindra Reva e2o will surely create a new segment for itself in the Indian auto market as there is no such electric vehicle present in the country, as of now. Industry experts believe that Mahindra might face some issues in the initial stages, in order to change the stereotype thinking of Indian buyers who have no liking towards other fuel options. But considering the advantages of model, Mahindra Reva e2o is expected to take the market by storm in long run.
