Mahindra Reva Electric Vehicles Private Limited, a subsidiary of the $ 5.9 billion Mahindra Group, has launched its e2o battery powered small car in Bangalore on April 4, 2013. The company had earlier introduced its e2o model In New Delhi last month amid immense media hype and speculations.
Mahindra Reva Electric Vehicles has tagged the e2o small car with an on road price of Rs. 7.01 lakh in Bangalore. The cute electric vehicle can seat four adults with ease and weighs just 830 kg. Further, the Mahindra Reva e2o boasts off an impressive range of about 100 km on a single full charge that takes about five hours. The car runs on a 3-phase electric motor and is powered with energy efficient Lithium ion batteries.
Chetan Maini, Chief of Strategy and Technology, Mahindra Reva Electric Vehicles Private Limited, was present at the launch ceremony of e2o in Bangalore. Maini was confident that the e2o electric car will carve a niche in the company’s history and will set new benchmarks in the Indian auto market.
Speaking on the cutting edge technologies used in the Mahindra Reva e2o hatch, Maini was quoted as saying, “Besides regular recharge of batteries through a 15A socket either at home or office, the battery can be recharged though solar panels too.” He further added, “Also, 100 public recharging points have been installed across Bangalore for emergency requirements. Revive, a remote emergency charge, is activated through the smartphone application, and can drive the car for about 10 km.”
As per reports, Mahindra Reva Electric Vehicles has decided to begin export operations of the e2o overseas sometime during the first half of 2014 calendar year. Further, the initial response has not been up to expectations and the company will be looking at the Bangalore market for some sales lift.
