The country’s largest utility vehicle manufacturer Mahindra has clarified that it will not be introducing more SsangYong products in India anytime soon. This also means that India will not get the internationally popular Tivoli SUV, thereby clearing speculations surrounding its launch in the country. An announcement in this regard was made by Mahindra and Mahindra Executive Director, Pawan Goenka at the recently held 56th Annual ACMA (Automotive Component Manufacturers Association) Convention.

      SsangYong Tivoli

The company clarified that SsangYong’s acquisition was not part of plans to bring more of SsangYong products to India. Though Mahindra will not introduce the Tivoli here, it is believed that the company is working on a compact SUV which will be based on the Tivoli's X100 platform. Though more details about the new vehicle is not known for now, we believe it could either be powered by the company’s 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engine options, while its launch might happen towards the end of 2017.
The Tivoli SUV gathered a lot of attention when it was last showcased at this year Auto Expo event in the country. If launched, it would have competed strongly against the Hyundai Creta, Honda BR-V and Maruti Suzuki’s Vitara Brezza. However, due to low sales of the SsangYong Rexton in India, the company has decided against introducing the Tivoli here.
