      Mahindra & Mahindra emerges as the most popular Indian car maker on social networking sites

      There is nothing new in the fact that Indian auto makers are resorting to social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter for the publicity of their brands and to make fans. While Facebook pages of almost all the car brands of all the companies exist, Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M) has the most number of fan following on Facebook among the domestic car makers. According to the data released by social benchmarking company, Unmetric, M&M with over four million fans on Facebook tops the chart followed by Tata Motors and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd.

      M&M, Tata Motors and Maruti Suzuki India have an overall 91 lakh fans with 4,137,641 fans of M&M, followed by Tata Motors at 28,48,144 fans and Maruti Suzuki at 21,63,328 fans. The three Indian car makers together control 52 per cent of the market. These three auto makers are followed by Audi India with 12,55,698 fans and BMW India with 11,76,361 fans. BMW, Audi, Mercedes and VW, which have merely 0.8 per cent market share have an overall 39 lakh fans on Facebook.

      Lakshmanan Narayan, Chief Executive Officer, Unmetric, said, “Young India has always had a penchant for the aspirational so I am not surprised to see the German auto manufacturers leading the way when it comes to social media performance in India.”

      As Facebook has emerged as the biggest platform to take new brands among the people, the auto makers in the country keep updating their pages so as to maximise the number of fans. The data released by Unmetric would definitely make Mahindra & Mahindra proud as it has emerged as the most popular Indian car maker on Facebook.
