The next generation of Bolero is underway and has been caught on camera several times being tested in various parts of the country. Codenamed, U301, Bolero facelift is yet in nascent stage and is expected to go on sale by 2016. Speculations suggest that Mahindra could offer new generation Bolero in two body styles-a regular full grown SUV and a compact sub-four meter SUV. If media reports are to be believed, M&M is planning to bestow plethora of tweaks on Bolero to metamorphose it from being an austere utility vehicle to a contemporary offering. Front seems to resemble with XUV 500, a set of smoked head lamps are likely to be equipped, tail lamps seem to have borrowed from Scorpio.

Bolero’s current generation is powered by a 2.5 litre oil burner, capable of engendering maximum power of 63 Bhp, however it is being expected that the successor model of the vehicle will come packed with a slightly modified m-Hawk motor. The m-Hawk motor presently powering Scorpio could be tweaked for delivering higher efficiency. A low displacement 1.5 litre diesel engine could also be borrowed from Quanto which is likely to be housed in the sub-four meter version of the SUV.

Bolero has been a strong contender in UV segment, its robust semblance, low pricing and dependable performance has made it a viable option among its competitors. Bolero range starts at Rs 5.75 lakh only and goes up to Rs 7.75 lakh, however addition of various features and tweaks hint at price bump, though it is too early to comment on that.
