Ssangyong, the South Korea based auto maker that has recently been acquired by the India’s largest utility vehicle maker Mahindra & Mahindra, will be focusing on its SUV portfolio over the coming time.

In the midst of contradicting company statements regarding Ssangyong's India ambitions, Mahindra & Mahindra president (auto & farm equipment division) Pawan Goenka in a recent statement said, "Our priority for Ssangyong right now is product development and expansion of the network. We will focus on SUVs because that's our core business. Ssangyong has a single sedan – Chairman – in its portfolio and it is not really part of our focus."

The Ssangyong SUVs that will enjoy attention from the company year include the Rexton and Korando sports utility vehicles. According to Mr. Goenka, Ssangyong is on its way to overcome the parts shortage caused by the recent massive earth quake and Tsunami.

M&M is currently the largest utility vehicle maker in the Indian market. Thus, the addition of the Ssangyong vehicles in its portfolio will further increase the company’s strength globally with a potential of rolling out these cars in India.
