      Locally assembled BMW 7 Series rolls out from Chennai plant

      The Indian arm of BMW, a world renowned German premium automotive marque, has rolled out its first locally assembled 7 Series model from its Chennai-based manufacturing facility on May 30, 2013. The fifth generation 7 Series model was launched in the domestic car market on April 25, 2013 and it was revealed then that it would be soon be locally produced in the country.

      BMW India introduced its new 7 Series luxury saloon at a price tag of Rs. 92.9 lakh last month. At present, the luxury limousine is available in both petrol and diesel guises in the Indian auto market. Four variants of the BMW 7 Series are offered, namely 730Ld (diesel) at Rs. 92.90 lakh and three petrol trims 740Li, 750Li, and 760Li at Rs. 1.12 crore, Rs. 1.29 crore, and Rs. 1.73 crore respectively.

      As per reports, BMW 730Ld is the locally assembled model, whereas the 740Li, 750Li, and 760Li variants are marketed in India as CBUs (Completely Built Units). The domestic production has helped the German auto maker in keeping pricing of its models competitive in the auto market. At present, BMW India's Chennai facility also manufactures BMW X1, BMW X3, BMW 3 Series, BMW 5 Series and MINI Cooper Countryman models.

      The 7 Series luxury limousine is BMW's flagship model in the Indian premium automobile market and is among the most regal and luxurious vehicles in its class. The stunning saloon is pitched against Jaguar XJ 3.0, Audi A8L 3.0 TDI and the Mercedes-Benz S Class S350L in the country.
