Lexus teases the three-row RX for Los Angeles Auto Show debut

Lexus RXL has been officially teased by the Japanese carmaker. The three row RX will make its official debut at the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show.

Currently offered only as a five-seater, the seven-seater RX has been awaited for years now, especially in the American market. The three-row RX was rumoured to be called the TX, to rival against the likes of the Acura MDX and Volvo XC90 amongst other sever-seater crossovers. However, now it’s confirmed that the RX moniker will come with an ‘L’ suffix to signify the extended body style. Apart from an added row and some extra space, the three-row RX would be mechanically identical to the existing model. The standard powertrain would be carried forward in both 350 and the hybrid 450h guise as teased by Lexus.

So the RX 350L will be powered by the same 3.5-liter V6 with 295bhp and 363Nm of torque. The eight-speed automatic would channel power to either the front or both axles, depending on options. The 450hL hybrid variant will continue with the 3.5-liter V6 with a total output of 308 hp. Appearance wise, the RXL will have the same styling as the standard RX apart from the extra rear overhangs. The spy images hint that the wheelbase of RXL will remain unchanged over the standard car.

Lexus was speculated to be developing a seven-seater RX for a couple of years now. The Japanese carmaker is mulling over selling 70,000 units in terms of yearly sales. A seven-seater RX would have helped with these numbers apart from bridging the gap that exists between the current product line-up.

Following the reveal at the LA Show on 29 November, the RXL will hit the production line sometime in 2018.
