The luxury division of Toyota, Lexus, have just imported 17 of their RX450H in India. For an attempt to make an entry in India, Lexus is taking the required initiatives. The RX450h is a Hybrid mid-size luxury crossover SUV. It sits in between the company’s larger GX and LX body-on-frame SUVs, and the smaller NX crossover.
The car is powered by a 3.5-litre V6 coupled with a parallel hybrid system comprising an AC motor combined with a 1.9 kWh Nickel-Metal Hydride battery pack. The power is sent to the front wheels mated to an electronically controlled Continuously Variable Transmission (ECVT) with six stepped ratios. With a combined power output of 308 bhp. It is also available with an optional all-wheel drive.

The car has an aerodynamic drag coefficient of 0.33. It isn’t a plug-in, which means that the energy is regenerated from the powertrain. It can do a 0-100 kmph run in 7.7 seconds and achieve a top speed of 200 kmph.
Surprisingly, Lexus has decided to import their Hybrid SUV instead of the sedan. Since it is imported as a CBU, it will drastically increase the cost of the vehicle. The sedan will be priced around 50-60 lakh which is in the territory of premium cars like the 5 series or the E, them being established vehicles in that segment. Hence a mid-size SUV is appropriate when Toyota wants to establish the Lexus as a brand in itself.
The RX450h is expected to be priced around 80-85 lakh. In India, it would have to go against the likes of Mercedes-Benz GLE, BMW X5 and Volvo XC90.
