Lexus launched the new ES sedan in India at a price of Rs 55 lakh. The ES enters in a well-established segment of premium executive sedans and is priced quite handsomely for that segment. It goes up against the likes of Mercedes-Benz E-Class, BMW 5 Series and the Audi A6, along with Jaguar XF and the Volvo S90. However, here is a list of other cars that you can buy for the price of Lexus ES.

With the SUVs being the latest craze in the car buying market, there are more than a few choices to opt for instead of this big Japanese executive sedan. Amongst the German triads, we have the Mercedes-Benz GLC and the BMW X3 for the exact same price, both of which are available in petrol and diesel powertrain. The Ingolstadt offering, on the other hand, comes in the form of trusted old Q5, however only with the diesel powertrain. The top of the line Volvo XC60 makes for an interesting buy, at the similar price of the ES, whereas the base variant can be had for a lot less. For a bit of hardcore off-roading credentials, the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited 4x4 Petrol makes for a great choice. If veritable British motors are the order of the day, then Land Rover Discovery Sport presents an option of both five and seven seat option at the same price range. The Range Rover Evoque, on the other hand, takes things further with its flamboyant and sporty design. These are all the SUVs you can buy for the price of the new ES. However, the choices don't end here. The ES makes a great buy for someone looking an exclusive vehicle which differs from the established executive sedans sold in India. But if the Lexus is chosen merely to flaunt its unique styling on the road, one could also look at two cabriolets on sale in the country. The Audi A3 Cabriolet is the cheaper of the two and is available under Rs 50 lakh. It is nimble and seats four. The other Cabriolet is the C300, which is your best bet since it's pretty much akin to a scaled down S-Cabriolet these days and is just Rs 5 lakh dearer than the ES. Both these cars offer a premium drop-top motoring experience this side of the European market. Or simply one can go ahead and get the Audi TT or the Ford Mustang for Rs 7 lakh and 9 lakh over the ES if its performance in the mind while buying the Lexus.

However, the Lexus ES takes the cake with its hybrid powertrain with more emphasis on efficiency rather than performance. It is on par with its German adversaries in term of power, but with a claimed fuel efficiency of 17kmpl, the ES is one proposition not to be passed without due consideration.
