BMW India has launched the performance edition of its premium hatchback, 1-Series in the domestic market. The performance edition is christened, ‘BMW 1 Series M Performance Edition’. Only 111 units of the limited edition have been produced and will be available for sale in BMW outlets until July 25th, 2014. Integrated with additional features and flaunting new cosmetic tweaks, the hatchback does not get any performance and mechanical upgrades. Contributing towards the sporty semblance of the hatchback features like improved aerodynamics, rear spoiler with fins, racing stripes, black front grille have been equipped in the M performance edition of the vehicle.
The hatchback also gets a performance badge, under the hood, the same 2.0 litre, four cylinder, diesel powertrain is housed that belts out a top power and torque output of 143 Hp and 320 Nm respectively. The engine enables the vehicle to sprint from zilch to 100 kmph within 8.6 seconds. Besides this a 1.6 litre, four cylinder motor will also be put on offer, the engine is capable of developing a maximum power of 136 Hp along with a top torque of 220 Nm.
This high displacement engine will accelerate the vehicle from 0 to 100 kmph within 8.7 seconds. Addition of new features and a handful of revivifications have led to a slight bump in price. The BMW 1-Series M performance edition has been launched in response to the recent launch of Mercedes A Class special edition. Premium hatchback segment currently does not have many options, however it has been learnt that German auto biggie, Audi is also expected to come up with a premium hatchback in India some time soon.
