After several rounds of speculations about the launch date of the much-hyped Suzuki Gixxer, a formal date has been announced for the same. The premium 150 cc motorcycle will be launched on 9th of September, 2014. There was much expectation from the GS150R, which never was fulfilled by this bike. Despite the fact that it had a much bolder design and attractive styling, the bike failed to impress the customers. The specifications of Suzuki Gixxer have already been revealed by the brand. It will be pitted against the Yamaha FZ-S V2.0, TVS Apache 160, Honda CB Trigger and other models in this segment.
The Gixxer runs on a 154.9 cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled, dual valve engine, which is capable of producing 14.8 PS power at 8000 rpm. The maximum torque that is produced by the machine is of 14 Nm of torque, but at a reduced 6000 rpm; all this mated to a 5-speed gearbox. The Suzuki Eco Performance (SEP) for improved power output and fuel efficiency has been installed on this bike. Gixxer has been provided with a telescopic front suspension and a monoshock one at the rear. Front disc brakes and rear drum brakes do the duty of controls on a busy road. What is disappointing is the fact that rear disc brakes are not even available as an option.
The weight of the bike has been kept at a standard 135 kilograms, thus contributing to a great power to weight ratio. The seat height has been kept at 780 mm just to keep riders of all heights equally accessible. Suzuki has kept the price quite aggressive at 84344 INR and the bookings have already started.
