Lamborghini has launched their first ever super SUV in India at Rs 3 crores.

Lamborghini launched the Urus in India for Rs 3 crores

The Urus joins the Avantador and Huracan in the Italian marque’s stable. It is so important for Lamborghini that they inaugurated an all-new production plant just for the Urus. As a Lamborghini tradition, the name Urus is derived from one of the large, wild ancestors of the domestic cattle.

The Urus is based on the VW Groups new MLB Evo platform. Under the hood sits a 4.0-litre turbocharged V8 breathing out a humble 650bhp of raw power at 6000rpm and 850Nm of twisting force between 2,250-4,500rpm channelled to all-four wheels via an eight-speed unit. The off-roader can accelerate from 0-100kmph in a sports car-shaming 3.6 seconds. The top speed of 305kmph gives it the crown of the fastest SUV.

The Italian SUV comes with the fighter-jet-style ANIMA drive selector which controls five driving modes – Strada, Sport, Corsa, Sabbia (sand), Terra (land), and Neve (snow). Apart from it, Lamborghini’s famous Ego mode is also present. To stop the mammoth beast with confidence, the Urus comes with the biggest brakes ever fitted on a production SUV.

Looks wise, the production-spec Urus remains true to the original aggressive-looking concept. It is a supercar disguised as an SUV. Lamborghini has instilled every bit of their DNA in the Urus. It is unmistakably a Lamborghini with all those chiselled creases and that in-your-face styling. The front bumper is very busy with lots of slats and louvres making it look like a Sci-Fi creature. The SUV sits on massive 23-inch designer alloy wheels (largest in its segment). The Urus also scrounges the rear-wheel steering from the Aventador S. The wheels are wrapped in special Pirellis.

On the inside, it is everything you’d expect from a Lamborghini. Although highly customizable, the cabin is sporty and functional. There are two digital screens in the centre console, while instrument cluster is all-digital too. The Urus is a four-seater but can be had in a five-seat configuration as well. The boot space is 616 litres which can be extended to 1,596 litres.

The Urus locks horns with the likes of the Bentley Bentayga, Land Rover Range Rover and other opulent and fast SUVs.
