Tapping the high-end segment of the Asia's second-fastest growing market, the Italian luxury sports car maker Automobili Lamborghini SpA recently launched its all-new Aventador LP 700-4 model in India, available at a price of around Rs. 3.69 crore.

The latest introduction in the range, Aventador was first unwrapped at the Geneva Motor show in March this year and soon after the event, it received orders from 20 Indian customers. The company reports that it has received over 1,500 bookings globally.

"This year we expect to sell around 20 Lamborghini in India and aim to double the tally in 2012," said Satya Bagla, Managing Director of Lamborghini's sole dealer in India, Exclusive Motors. The sports cars have been welcomed with open arms by Indian consumers and after the Airtel Indian Grand Prix, the sales of such cars would get a further boost.

Aventador LP 700-4 is backed by the strength of a 12-cylinder 6.5-litre engine, which ranks it among the fastest street-legal cars in the world and can attain a maximum speed of up to 350 kmph. Being assembled by composite carbon materials that are used in the Boeing 787 Dreamliner Lamborghini the Scissors Doors, Aventador gains a speed of 100 kmph in just 2.9 seconds.

Lamborghini is planning to inaugurate its second facility in Mumbai next year. "India is one of the fastest emerging markets for sports car for us. Aventador is a consistent continuation of Lamborghini's brand values something that now has a huge potential after the success of the recent Formula 1 race. Taking the brand further, we plan to extend our reach in the Indian market by starting the next showroom in Mumbai in early 2012," said James Page, Marketing Manager for SE Asia and Pacific, Automobili Lamborghini SpA.

According to industry sources, the Indian market, where around 100 such sports cars from makers like Ferrari SpA, Aston Martin, Porsche and Bugatti, being priced above one crore were sold last year, expects a double figure in 2011. The Aventador, which carries taxes in excess of 100 per cent , like other imported cars, has a waiting period of up to 18 months for Indian customers.

Thus, Lamborghini has re-entered the Indian market with much aplomb and intensity, aiming to unsettle close rivals in the coming time.
