Reports state that in August 2015, JLR had filed for patents pertaining to a few aerodynamic designs. These have now been published this month by the United States trademark office.

JLR trademarks aero design tricks for its future range

Going by these images, the upcoming cars from JLR promise to have less drag thanks to the way air is channelled around the vehicle. We came across two design tricks for the front, one of which includes a deployable bumper fins which can rotate to fine-tune airflow at the front wheel. And active extendable side-sills which clean up the airflow behind the front tyre before they are channelled to the rear diffuser (if equipped).

At the rear end, a section of the D-pillar is hollow so that it can be fitted with fins, and the rear bumper can also be seen with active fins (like those at the front wheel), to channel the air inwards. We believe that when these ideas are applied, the vehicles in question will boast of increased efficiency and driveability. Expect JLR to roll out these aerodynamic tricks on its cars as soon as possible, so stay tuned for more information.
