The announcement came from Michael Manley, president and chief executive- Jeep at Detroit Motor Show. This financial year has been the worst in last 11 years for the Indian automotive industry, when for the first time the car sales are expected to end at a negative note. The reason has been the negative economic growth, which kept the buyers to not go for new vehicles. However, Fiat India has recorded a positive growth in last 9 months, courtesy Fiat's dealership expansion strategy.

After parting ways with its erstwhile partner Tata Motors, Fiat has opened 100 exclusive dealerships of its own in all the major, tier-II and tier-III cities. Now when Jeep has decided to come a little later, Fiat will keep its focus on launching mass-segment products, along with increasing its touch points across the nation. Fiat has plans to launch new Linea, Punto Abarth, Punto Adventure crossover and few other vehicles in 2014. Some of its upcoming cars will also be showcased at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo, next month.
