Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles are all set to launch the all-new Jeep Compass tomorrow. To be the first ever India-made Jeep, the Compass will join the Jeep Wrangler and the Grand Cherokee and will be the entry-level car in the American carmaker’s India line-up.
The butch looking SUV aims to take the Jeep brand to the masses, marking Fiat Chrysler first real attempt to get back to the numbers game after the dismal performance of the Fiat brand in the country. With its modern looks and up-to-date equipment lists, the Jeep Compass should prve to be a formidable competitor to the D-segment sedans like the Hyundai Elantra, Skoda Octavia and the Toyota Corolla Altis.
The Jeep Compass, built at the Ranjangoan factory, will be offered with two engine options – the 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine and the 2.0-litre Multijet diesel engine mated to both manual and automatic gearbox options. Both the powertrains will get the four-wheel drive option as well, staying true to the Jeep DNA.
Bookings for the Jeep Compass are already open, the prices will be announced tomorrow. We have been assured that FCA will employ an aggressive pricing strategy and we expect the entry-level trims to start at somewhere about Rs 15.5 to Rs 16 lakh with the price of the top-spec Compass crawling beyond Rs 20 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi.
