The Jeep Compass will mark its official debut in India tomorrow. The automaker will introduce its first locally-made SUV in the country in petrol, diesel and AWD versions.
While the Compass is globally available in a variety of engine options, we can expect the Indian market to get the 1.4-litre petrol model and the 2.0-litre diesel version. A six-speed manual gearbox will be standard, while buyers can also opt for the automatic version and an all-wheel-drive variant.
The Compass is the first of the modern Jeeps to be made in India and exported to other countries. The Indian-spec is similar to the global model. The traditional vertically slatted grille, flared and squared wheel arches and muscular stance give it a mini Cherokee look. The SUV’s cabin features a leather interior, a touch screen system, multi-function steering wheel, automatic gearbox and different driving modes.
FCA India's operations in India began last year with the launch of the Wrangler and Cherokee. The carmaker will adopt a different strategy for the Compass to get a better response compared to its existing models. We can expect aggressive pricing for the SUV and a wide range of variants for the Compass, which is pitted to be a game-changing product for the company.
