The premium Jeep brand from Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has hiked prices for the Compass by Rs 21,000 for the base variant and Rs 72,000 for the top spec variant. The company attributes the price revision to the recent hike in cess. Owing to the additional seven per cent cess on all SUVs, the new tax applicable under the GST regime now stands at 50 per cent as against the 43 per cent cess which was effective when GST was first implemented in July 2017.

Post revision in prices, the base variant of the Jeep Compass is now priced at Rs 15.16 lakhs, while the top spec 4x4 is priced at Rs 21.40 lakhs (Both, ex-showroom). However, the hike in prices for the India-made Compass is quite low as compared to the other Jeep products which are sold in India via the CBU route. The company also sells the Grand Cherokee, Grand Cherokee SRT and the Wrangler in India via the CBU route. The price hike for the imports range between Rs 2.75 lakhs to Rs 6.40 lakhs.

Jeep has received over 10,000 bookings for the Compass and is also one of the best seller for the company in India. Mechanically, the Jeep Compass gets a 1.4-litre Multiair engine that generates 160bhp of power and 250Nm of torque, while the diesel version gets a 2.0-litre MultiJet II engine that generates 170bhp of power and 350Nm of torque. The Compass is available in three variants – Sport, Longitude and Limited, which is further available in 10 trims.
