India will be the only country to be supplying Compass to right-hand-drive markets, globally. This step took an investment of over USD 280 million (Rs 1,808 crore) used to enhance the facility located in Ranjangaon and develop it to world standards. With this investment, the facility has now become a manufacturing and export hub for Fiat Chrysler Automobiles group. Apart from India, such facilities currently exist in Brazil, Mexico and China.

The Jeep Compass has been designed along the lines of the Grand Cherokee to give it that imposing look. As for the powertrain, it is offered with a 1.4-litre petrol engine or a 2.0-litre diesel mill. The Compass also gets the option of an automatic gearbox and an all-wheel-drive system. Inside, the Compass gets a touch screen system, multi-function steering wheel and leather upholstery.

The CBUs in Jeep’s Indian portfolio – the Wrangler and the Grand Cherokee, have failed to make a mark thanks to their high price tags. However with the Compass being locally manufactured, we can expect a competitive pricing for this SUV. The Compass will play an important role in generating volumes for Jeep.
