A 1.6-litre engined Jeep Compass diesel has been spotted testing outside Pune. This is the second diesel engine option for the American automaker’s budget SUV after the 2.0-litre Multijet diesel. This engine is a part of the larger range of engines that is offered with the Compass in global markets.
In global spec, this engine produces 120bhp and can be had only with a six-speed manual. The production and testing of this vehicle indicates that Jeep has now started production of cars to export to various RHD markets from its plant in Ranjangaon. The test vehicle spotted in the photos was also equipped with an AWD system.
It is unlikely that this 1.6-litre variant will be launched in India anytime soon as the 2.0-litre diesel puts the Compass on par with its competition across a large price range.
