      Jaguar XK production to be stopped effective mid 2014

      British auto maker, Jaguar has proclaimed that it will stop production of Jaguar XK sports car effective second half of 2014. The company is developing new cars like XE sedan and F-Type coupe which will soon debut in the international markets, the company fears that with these products added to its line-up, XK might lose sheen and hence has decided to phase out the spots car.

      F-Type models are said to be based on XK, despite the wide gap in price between both the cars, the sale of latter dropped sharply in the last few years owing to the growing popularity of former. Killing XK does not mean that the company will leave that slot empty, a replacement is being speculated to fill the slot. However, details regarding the replacing car aren’t out yet.

      Jaguar recently launched the F-Type coupe in India at a starting price of Rs 1.21 crore, the top end version on the other hand is available for sale at Rs 1.82 crore (ex-showroom price). The sports car is being offered in India in three trims, F-Type R, F-Type S and F-Type. F-Type R is housed with a mighty 5.0 litre supercharged V8 engine, the sports car propels from 0 to 100 kmph within 4 seconds and attains a top speed of 290 Kmph. The 5.0 litre V8 motor is capable of producing a whopping 542.8 Bhp. The F-Type S and F-Type models are packed with a 3.0 litre V6 supercharged gasoline engine that churns out a varied power outputs of 374.8 Bhp and 335.8 Bhp respectively. S Coupe sprints to 100 kmph from nil within 4.8 seconds and reaches a top speed of 275 Kmph. Base variant on the other hand reaches 100 kmph from zero within 5.1 seconds and touches a top speed of 260 kmph. Power is transmitted to the front tyres through an eight speed close ration quickshift gearbox.
