Infiniti’s attraction towards building electric vehicles dates back to the four-door electric LE and Emerg-e concept vehicles that the brand showcased in 2012 at the Geneva and New York motor shows.
While the LE concept (based on Nissan’s Leaf) sported a 134bhp electric motor with 325Nm of torque and a 24 kWh lithium-ion battery, the Emerg-e was a 400bhp two-door sleekly designed concept but despite the effort, Infinity never really got going with these EVs.
However, that’s all set to change as the brand is reportedly going ahead with their EV plans thanks to the demand from the Chinese market which overtook the US to become the world’s largest market for plug-in electric cars. “When I think about EV, we design it for China definitely,” said Infiniti President Roland Krueger in an interview.
Going by these reports, it looks like the Chinese market would be the first to taste the Infiniti EV. There’s no details as of now about which product will make it to the stable first, but Infiniti reiterated that their EV will be on sale very soon.
