      Indian Auto Market to Witness More Diesel Cars

      All auto manufacturers in India realize the popularity of diesel cars in India. Indian customers readily opt for diesel cars as they prove to be quite fuel efficient and have cheaper cost of running. Nearly all auto makers in India are going the diesel way. They are either launching more diesel variants of their existing models or are launching new vehicles with at least one diesel option for their upcoming models.

      "There is a good demand for diesel cars in the Indian market, and we are looking at the possibility of introducing more diesel engine options", says Maruti Suzuki India managing director S Nakanishi. Maruti is ready to launch is new model Maruti Ritz in India which will come with 1.3 liter engine along with its two petrol variants. The company already has successful diesel models of Maruti Swift and Dzire.

      Hyundai also plans to bring in diesel models of its hottest selling models – i10 and i20. Toyota is ready to launch its SUV Fortuner in India which will also come with a 3 liter advanced common-rail diesel engine. The model will cost around Rs. 20 lakh. Even the luxury car maker Audi plans to bring the diesel model of its SUV Q5 in India by June this year powered by 3.0 liter TDI diesel engine.
