In line with the global auto giants, leading Indian auto makers like Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra are chasing green technologies such as hybrid and electric cars, as there has been a considerable increase in the oil prices in last few years.

The largest vehicle maker in the country, Tata Motors is all set to launch its much anticipated Indica Vista EV. The Indica Vista Electric will be sold in countries like UK, Norway and Denmark. On the other hand, the country’s largest utility vehicle maker Mahindra & Mahindra is all set to roll-out its Reva NXR in the global market later this year. The Reva NXR car is based on new-generation lithium-ion battery.

Besides the Indian car makers, a number of leading global auto makers are aggressively developing new electric and hybrid cars. Even the ultra luxury car maker Rolls Royce has showcased its first ever electric car – 102 EX Phantom – at the ongoing Geneva Motor Show.

Further, in a recent statement given to a leading news daily, General Motors CEO Dan Akerson said, "It's the auto industry's digital shift towards hybrid and electric technology that would be the biggest paradigm shift in the entire history of cars."
