The upcoming BMW X4 will be based on the Cluster Architecture (CLAR) platform. Based on what can be seen, the India spec version is expected to be offered with a brushed aluminium cladding on the wheel arches and side skirts. The one spotted on test comes with a unique set of 19-inch alloy wheels, thereby indicating that this might well be the higher spec M Sport X variant. The vehicle is expected to be offered with the latest iDrive infotainment system and offer 525-litres of boot space, this can be further increased to 1,430-litres with the rear seats folded.

Although the test mule does not reveal more details on the engine spec, it is believed to be a diesel variant, called the M40d that will be powered by a 3.0-litre diesel engine that generates 320bhp of power and 680Nm off torque. Sometime later, the company might also introduce a petrol version, called the M40i, which is expected to be powered by a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder engine that generates 252bhp of power and 350Nm of torque. Both the engines will come mated to an eight-speed Steptronic transmission.
