The made in India Jeep Compass has been awarded a five-star safety rating at Australian New Car Assessment Programme aka ANCAP. Jeep’s Indian production facility manufactures the Compass SUV solely for the right-hand-drive markets including Australia and New Zealand. The safety rating applies to all variants which are built from September 2017.
Jeep Compass which was tested by ANCAP comes loaded with safety equipment such as nine airbags, speed-limiter and more as standard. Features like autonomous emergency braking and lane support system is variant specific. The front impact test results revealed good protection levels for front passenger’s head and knee, while the chest and lower legs protection has been rated as just acceptable. The passenger compartment held its shape well in the frontal offset test. Moreover, during side-impact and whiplash test, the driver's head, upper body and the neck all had good protection. The results also revealed that all doors remained closed during the crash while the pedal and steering wheel displacements were well controlled.
Although the Australian spec model gets the same structural dimensions, under the hood, the SUV is powered by a 2.4-litre petrol engine. Back in September 2017, the left-hand drive version of the Jeep Compass had also scored a five-star rating at the Euro NCAP.
