Car sales figures for the month of July are out and they are a lot like we had expected them. After the controlled dispatches in June, July numbers were supposed to be high. A few cars jumped to record heights a few of them just about managed to hop. Here is a rundown on the highs and lows in July 2017.
Highs
Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza
The Brezza is here because this is the first time that sales of a compact SUV sales has crossed 15,000 units in a month. Before the Brezza, the entire sub-four metre SUV segment did not amount to 15,000 units as such and that is commendable.
Tata Hexa
The Hexa numbers had been dwindling steadily over the past few months, thus adding a few wrinkles and worry lines to the foreheads of Tata product managers. But July seems to have pumped fresh life into the Hexa as it managed to sell 1,564 units, its highest ever as yet. If the Hexa manages maintain this sales figure, Tata will certainly start breathing easy.
It is the first time that the big ford has managed to breach the 1,000 units mark in 2017. While it is certainly much better than the Fortuner (which sold 3444 units), the Ford Endeavour is yet to become the first choice. With more aggressive campaigning, the Endeavour should be able to ring in such numbers on a regular basis.
Lows
The Honda City hasn’t been able to recover from the slump in June. It clocked in only 4,500 units in the month of July as well. While the segment has sprung back with the Ciaz moving to the 6,000s again, the City has a tough task ahead especially with the all-new Verna coming in at the end of August 2017.
In spite of the upswing in the market, all Datsuns are struggling except for the Redi-Go. The Datsun Go and Go+ numbers have been reduced to the bare minimum with the only sales probably coming in from fleet aggregators and taxi markets.
