Peugeot has revealed the second generation of the 3008. This vehicle, originally built as a MPV has now become a crossover underscoring the importance of the body style to the French automaker. It was previewed as the Quartz concept at the 2014 Paris Motor Show and now rides on Peugeot’s flexible EMP2 platform.

In terms of looks, the sloping MPV design has been replaced in favour of a butch front, flared wheel arches, sloping rear roofline and liberal doses of chrome all around. The extra length means the wheelbase has grown to 2675mm and boot has a capacity of 520-litres/1580-litres with the seats down.

It gets the usual list of features found on vehicles in this price range and this includes climate control, power windows, eight-inch touchscreen infotainment and for the first time a fully digital instrument cluster which the company has dubbed the i-cockpit. The car is being offered with a range of three-cylinder and four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines. These can be had with a six-speed manual or a six-speed AT.

The car will make its public debut at the 2016 Paris Motor Show in October and will go on sale at the same in various markets around the globe. In the Indian context, this will be an important car for the French automaker as it will be their C-segment rival against the likes of the Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano, Honda BR-V and the Hyundai Creta. This is a burgeoning segment in the Indian market and is expected to grow significantly by the time Peugeot makes its planned arrival in 2018.
