Jeep recently unveiled the much awaited Compass – an all-new compact crossover developed for global markets including the ever-growing Chinese market. According to recent reports, the Compass will debut at the Guangzhou Auto Show in November and launch soon thereafter.
In China, the Compass will be available with two four-cylinder petrol engine options: a 165bhp/250Nm 1.4 turbo and a much bigger 2.4-litre with 175hp and 230nm on top. While the 1.4 model will be paired to a 9-speed automatic, the 2.4 Compass will either get a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch unit.
The Compass will be manufactured locally and sold by the Guangzhou-Fiat joint venture. The company currently makes the Renegade and the Cherokee. The former is based on the FCA’s small 4x4 platform that also underpins Renegade and the Fiat 500X.
The Jeep Compass will also be produced here in India at FCA’s Ranjangaon plant from mid-2017 onwards. It is expected to be priced between Rs 25 lakh and Rs 30 lakh.
