The students of IIT Mumbai have unveiled their first electric racing car - EVo1 – on Thursday. The car was designed and developed by a team of more than 60 student from a number of disciplines including mechanical, energy science and electrical.
The car was unveiled in the presence of Mr. Rangan Banerjee, Institute's dean of Research and Development. Moreover, the team has already started the development of the 2013 edition of the car, which is aimed to be made much better than the existing version.
Speaking on the occasion of the launch of new EVo1, Mr. Prateek Sharma, one of the project managers of the team, said, "In EVo1, two motors are coupled with each other mechanically. The technology used in this version is mechanical differential. But we are planning to use the two motors independently in the next version. The technology used there will be of electronic differential. This will give more grip and also increase the performance by reducing the time taken to cover each lap during the race."
