Hyundai Xcent compact sedan has been launched in India in petrol and diesel variants with three trims in each guise, Base, S and SX. Apart from the manual transmission, the sedan is also being offered in automatic gearbox which is available in petrol trims only. The petrol range starts at Rs 4.66 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) and goes up to Rs 6.47 lakh. Basic version of diesel powered Xcent is priced at Rs 5.56 lakh and the top end diesel trim is available at Rs 7.38 lakh (ex-shoroom Delhi). Bookings for Xcent have already begun, with such aggressive pricing; the sedan is expected to get a gush of bookings.
With Xcent ,Hyundai has forayed in the sub-four-meter sedan segment and as speculated the semblance of sedan is similar to that of Grand i10 hatchback. Apart from sharing the same platform, Grand i10 and Xcent have several other things in common. Various design cues have been taken from Grand i10, front fascia of both cars looks similar too.
Hyundai has bestowed Xcent with its flexuous fluidic design, thefront facade has a hexagonal grille, headlamps look a lot like the one affixed on i20 hatchback. Except for the additional boot there is no dissimilarity between Grand i10 and Xcent from outer appearance. Xcent also offers the best in class boot space of 407 litres. Top end variant, SX gets 14 inch alloy wheels as a standard feature; however it is optional in S trim.
Hyundai has equipped Xcent with a string of segment best features including rear AC vents, a 1GB hard drive for the 2-DIN music system, push-button start, all-electric rear view mirrors, steering-mounted audio and Bluetooth controls and a cooled glove-box. Among the primary safety features, dual airbags for the front passenger and driver seat is available as a standard fitment in the high end SX trim. However, Anti-Lock-Brake system is optional in both SX and S trims. Xcent is also equipped with reverse parking camera which is offered only in the top end version, making Xcent the only car in CS segment to be equipped with this feature. The basic version gets power windows but only on the front.
Hyundai Xcent is housed with the same set of powertrains which are powering current variants of Grand i10.A 1.2 Litre Kappa2 motor with maximum power of 82 Bhp and 113 Nm is poweringXcent petrol range.Diesel variants of Xcent are equipped with 1.1 litre, three cylinder U2 CRDi mill that belts out a top power of 71 PS and peak torque of 180.4 Nm.A five speed manual transmission along with a four speed automatic gearbox is on offing. Mileage delivered by the diesel MT is 24.4 kmpl, petrol MT -19.1 kmpl and petrol AT -to 16.9 kmpl
With various segment first offerings, Xcent sure has an edge over its rivals like Swift Dzire and Amaze in the compact sedan segment. A new entrant will soon join the band wagon when Tata will launch Zest compact sedan in India during the festive season. It remains to be seen whether Xcent will be able to outnumber Dzire and Amaze in the coming months.
The price list for Hyundai Xcent is as follows, petrol powered Xcent base model is priced at Rs 4.66 lakh, S trim is being offered at Rs 5.35 lakh, S (O) is available at Rs 5.57 lakh, SX is up for grabs at Rs 6.22 lakh and SX (O) is priced at Rs 7.47 lakh. Automatic variants of Xcent which are being offered on the S (O) and SX (O) petrol trims are available at Rs 6.28 and Rs 7.19 respectively.Diesel avatar which is proffered only in manual transmission is available at Rs 5.56 lakh for the base model, S trim is being offered at Rs 6.23 lakh, S (O) is priced at Rs 6.48 lakh, SX is available for Rs 7.13 lakh and SX (O) is tagged at Rs 7.38 lakh.
