Hyundai has added it 1.4-litre four-cylinder diesel engine as a part of the Verna’s offerings for the Indian market. This engine is offered only on the E and EX trims levels and prices are Rs 9.29 lakhs and Rs 9.99 lakhs respectively (ex-showroom Delhi). The features for the E and EX 1.4-litre diesel are the same as their petrol counterparts and there is difference of Rs 2 lakhs and Rs 50,000 between the E petrol/diesel and the EX petrol/diesel.
This is the same engine that powers the diesel Elite i20/i20 active and produces 89bhp/220Nm with a six-speed manual. This engine was being offered for the previous generation Verna and last year at the launch of the current car, Hyundai said that this engine would make a comeback if there was sufficient demand. This is also expected to be the diesel engine for the QXi/Carlino compact crossover when it comes to India next year.
The E variant is now a choice for those looking at top-of-the-line models of the Maruti Dzire, Honda Amaze, Ford Aspire and the Volkswagen Ameo. This version is nowhere as feature loaded as the compact sedans but is a bigger car with a bigger boot and slightly more powerful diesel engine.
