After the Elite i20, i20 Active and Verna received dual airbags as standard, Hyundai India has continued along the same lines for its compact cars in 2016. The Eon, Grand i10 and Xcent get additional safety features in this latest overhaul.
Hyundai’s small hatch, the Eon gets a driver airbag as an option across the entire range except for the base D-lite trim. This feature was standard on the top Sportz variant and it will continue to be so.
The Grand i10 will be discontinued in the Asta trim in this latest update. This means it will now be available in the already existing four trims - Era, Magna, Sportz and Asta (O). The i10 will get a driver side airbag as standard across all the trims with the passenger side airbag being offered from the Sportz trim onwards.
Hyundai’s sub-4 metre sedan the Xcent will get a driver airbag standard to all variants with the passenger airbag being offered on the top-spec SX and SX (O) trims. Earlier this year, the carmaker also made ABS standard on all variants of the Xcent.
Pricing wise, the Grand i10 will cost Rs 11,000 more for each trim, according to dealer sources. However, price changes for the Eon and Xcent are yet to be confirmed though we believe that the Xcent should also undergo a similar price hike as the Grand i10 as they are based on the same platform. These updated models are expected to hit the roads inside 2 months, depending on the clearance of the current stock.
