The Hyundai Tucson will be launched for the Indian market during in October during the diwali season.  This will be the second new product from the South Korean automaker for 2016 and it follows their plans to launch two new products every year.

The Tucson is a D-Segment SUV that will slot in alongside the recently launched Elantra sedan. It was unveiled at the 2016 Auto Expo and was showcased with a 2.0-litre diesel engine producing 136bhp and 373Nm of torque with the only gearbox option being a six-speed manual. There is also likely to be a petrol variant but it is yet unclear if Hyundai will get the 1.6-litre GDi unit or use the 2.0-litre petrol engine of the Elantra.

Given its D-segment thrust, expect a feature list similar to that of the Elantra with things like climate control, touchscreen infotainment system, electrically adjustable driver’s seat and leather upholstery as standard.

With the Elantra, Hyundai aims to have a 35 per cent market share in the D-segment which has sales of around 1,000 units a month. The introduction of the Tucson should give them an even larger piece of the pie and may even push them to claim half the segment. This will, no doubt be enabled by Hyundai having first mover advantage in a segment where sedans have been a mainstay of the lineup.
