The 2017 Hyundai Verna will be launched for the Indian market tomorrow. Dealerships have recently begun accepting bookings for the sedan.

This challenger to Honda City and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz is Hyundai's latest bet in the C segment in India. This refreshed version of the Verna not only gets a new design, it has also increased in size as compared to the current sedan. This new-gen Verna is 65mm longer, 29mm wider and has a 30mm longer wheelbase. So with the increase in the dimensions, we can expect an increase in rear headroom and boot capacity too.

This new-generation Verna features a dual tone interior with a seven-inch touchscreen AVN unit. It supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and sat-nav amongst other features. The sedan will come with cooled and ventilated front seats, which is a first for a mid-size sedan in India. Other features will include leather-wrapped steering wheel with cruise control and infotainment buttons, auto-dimming mirrors, automatic ‘Clean Air’ climate control, HID headlamps with auto functions, LED tail lamps and 16-inch diamond cut alloy wheels.

We are expecting Hyundai to power the Verna with the same set of 1.6-litre petrol and diesel engines. However, these will be tuned to deliver more power and fuel economy. These engines will come mated to a six-speed manual gearbox as standard, while there will be an optional new six-speed automatic transmission on offer as well.

The Korean car manufacturer will announce the variant-wise prices of this fifth generation Verna tomorrow at an event in Delhi. We can expect the mid-size sedan to be offered at a starting price of Rs 8 lakhs, ex-showroom. Apart from the Honda City and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, the Verna will also compete with the Volkswagen Vento and Skoda Rapid in our country.
