Hyundai had planned to bring its popular SUV model to India in 2008. However, it delayed its plans owing to the slump in the market. Now the company intends to bring its powerful Santa Fe to India this year to brighten up the SUV segment in India. The new Santa Fe coming to India will sport the design and style of a coupe while the ground clearance and power will be that of an SUV.
Santa Fe is expected to be launched in two variants – 2.7 Liter petrol and 2.2L diesel. The petrol engine is capable of delivering output of 190 bhp while the diesel engine is capable of delivering bhp. The model is expected to be priced around Rs. 23 lakh competing against the Honda CRV model. It was expected that the model will be priced around Rs. 8 lakh but the new model host of features loaded in the model will be unable to keep the prices under check. Moreover, if the model is imported as CBU then it will attract 120 percent import duty as well. The final specifications and the price will be available only when the company finally launches the model.
