A heavily camouflaged Hyundai Santa Fe prototype was recently spotted testing abroad. In spite of the elaborate masking, the section around the nose was left out revealing some design cues. The highlights here are the headlights and grille which look similar to the car maker’s compact SUV, Kona.

The next generation Hyundai Santa Fe is slated to be more rugged with a longer wheelbase. It will grow in size, have extra features, and be more capable overall so that it can provide stiff competition to Toyota, Nissan and Honda. Reports also suggest that the new Santa Fe is expected to accommodate eight passengers, unlike the current car which can seat up to seven occupants.

The current Santa Fe was last updated in 2013, and the Korean brand is expected to infuse some excitement into the model through this new version. Hyundai told reporters that they intend to introduce two new small SUVs between 2018 and 2020, while the present line-up will also be updated. Hyundai USA’s CEO, Dave Zuchowski, said, “It’s not just about adding new vehicles, it’s about doing a better job of positioning a family of CUVs (crossover utility vehicles).”
