Korean auto-giant Hyundai is celebrating 30 years of success of its mid-sized sedan Sonata. The popular sedan made its debut way back in 1985 and has been playing a key role in driving the company’s reputation across the world. Since inception, Hyundai has sold over 7.3 million Sonata units across the globe.
Speaking more on the special feat, Dave Zuchowski, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor America, said, “During its 30-year history, we have been able to craft and evolve Sonata to the ever-changing needs of our customers. With the Sonata family growing this summer to include the all-new Sonata Plug-In Hybrid, we’re expanding an already diverse lineup with something for everyone.”
Since inception, Hyundai Sonata has witnessed 7 generation growth. The first generation tri designed by the company’s in-house team instantly gained fame and sold over one million units in Korea. The second generation trim received a front wheel drive system and features an enhanced aerodynamic design. The third generation witnessed introduction of digital technologies and phased out the analogue technology. The trim also received safety measures like ABS system. The fourth generation witnessed the introduction of Hyundai Intelligent Vehicle Electronic Control (HIVEC) transmission. The fifth generation vehicle based on European design theme offered premium characteristics and enhanced road presence. The sixth generation trim saw the globally acclaimed fluidic sculpture design that sensationalized the world. The seventh generation, the most latest and modern trim expanded its powertrain offerings with two additional eco-friendly models, that also includes the Hybrid version that was unveiled in 2014.
