Hyundai has previewed its IONIQ electric vehicle ahead of its official debut in South Korea next month. It was first shown as the i-ONIQ concept at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show and since then has been spotted testing on multiple occasions. The name has been derived from a portmanteau of Ion and unique with former being the whole electric connection while the latter signifies the USP that this vehicle brings to the Hyundai range.

The new EV from the curvy H will be offered with three power trains and is their player in the global green car segment which is dominated by vehicles like the Toyota Prius and Chevrolet Volt, Nissan Leaf as well as the Tesla model S.

The three powertrain options are a pure EV, plug-in Hybrid and gasoline hybrid. The teaser image shows a sporty compact design with a triangular outline, lowered front and raised rear-end. It is based on a completely new platform and will most likely spawn alternate body styles later on in its life cycle.

While an official statement from the automaker says that the car will be subsequently be shown at the Geneva and New York Auto shows. However, we believe that this vehicle will be on display at the Hyundai stall at the 2016 Auto Expo.
