Hyundai officially revealed the new i30 hatchback at the 2016 Paris Motor Show, and this iteration will drive better due to the new platform being more rigid by 22 per cent and lighter by 28kg.

New petrol engines that adorn the updated i30 include a 1.4-litre turbocharged motor that makes 138bhp and 242Nm of torque, a naturally aspirated 1.4-litre engine that makes 98bhp and 134Nm, and a 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine that produces 118bhp and 170Nm. On the other hand, diesel power will be supplied by a 1.6-litre motor which will be available in three power outputs, a 94bhp, 109bhp, and 134bhp. These powerplants will be mated to either a six-speed manual gearbox or a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Customers on the lookout for more performance will need to wait it out for the i30 N, with its 260bhp 2.0-litre turbocharged motor, to show up by the first half of 2017. Exteriors of the new i30 highlight the use of a large grille that extends lower down the bumper, and the flowing roofline which makes for a very smooth design overall. Hyundai has draped the cabin with bright coloured interiors, and while a five-inch infotainment system will be standard, the top end versions will use an eight-inch screen with navigation.

Hyundai showcased the i30 hatchback at the 2016 Auto Expo but is yet to confirm if the car could actually make it to showrooms here in India.
