Hyundai has been on a roll with the launch of six new models in the last one and a half years. With the production of the new i20 Active model, the company is looking forward to touch a landmark of six million units from its two plants in Chennai. The auto maker had already crossed the five-million milestone in October 2013.

Expressing his views on the same, B S Seo, the Managing Director and CEO of HMIL was quoted as saying, “The i20 Active will be a trendsetter model reflecting Hyundai’s modern premium brand direction, and will propel Hyundai’s growth in India. Designed with a vision of creating cutting-edge driving innovations and delivering outstanding comfort features, the i20 Active will appeal to young consumers in India.” Incidentally, with the launch of i20 Active in the Indian market, Hyundai has made a foray in the crossover segment.

Rakesh Srivastava, Senior VP (Sales and Marketing) said that around 103960 bookings of the Elite i20, which was launched seven months ago, bagged the tag of fastest booking by any manufacturer. The company is also planning to boost the capacity of its production facilities, and this is majorly considered as a step to accommodate the i20 Active. The South Korean auto maker is expecting almost an equal demand for the petrol and diesel models. During the last year, Hyundai grew by eight per cent as compared to the three per cent noted by the entire industry. This year, it is expected to grow by 13 per cent, as compared to the industry standard that stood around seven to eight per cent.

The HMIL officials said that the shares of the company have grown by 17.2 per cent in the current calendar, which were at 16.2 per cent. In terms of launching new models, the company plans to start with ix25 compact SUV, sometime in August 2015.
