Hyundai Motor India Ltd., the second largest auto maker in the country, is expecting to strike a deal with the new member body of its employee union, United Union of Hyundai Employees (UUHE) with reference to the wage agreement. The company is said to be tangled with long years of labour pressure and had disproved the need of such union as it had deputed a worker’s committee for their redressal.
The newly elected UUHE President G. Vinayagam remarked that, "The current three-year wage agreement is coming to an end this March. We will now have to hear out the views of our members and prepare our charter of demands to be presented to the management."
While speaking about the initiated negotiation, he further added, "We met the managing director Monday and extended our cooperation for the smooth running of operations and increased productivity. We also impressed upon him the need for the company to take care of worker's welfare,"
The recently conducted elections resulted in majority votes for a new panel of members to work for the labour benefit. On this, the ex-President, UUHE, K. Dilli Babu commented, "I didn't contest the elections this time. A new team of office bearers have been voted in. Normally it would be difficult for the first set of office. Overall it is a victory for all the parties - for the workers to have a management recognized union and for the management to have an apolitical union."
The wage agreement put forth by new body of UUHE will be the first ever wage agreement to be signed by Hyundai Motors after a series of negotiations planned to be held by this new union to terminate this turbulence through mutual co-operation.
