Hyundai leaves a mark on CNBC TV 18 Overdrive Awards

EON awarded Micro Mini Car of the Year

Verna wins Midsized Car of the Year

Saturday, Hyundai Motor India Limited, the leading car maker of India, has again left a lasting impression on the year 2011 with new additions to its line-up. The largest car exporter of India has won accolades at the prestigious CNBC TV18 Overdrive awards for 2012 for its EON and Verna. While Hyundai Eon was adjudged the Micro/Mini Car of the Year, Verna was deemed to be the Midsized Car of the Year. The event was held on Thursday, December 8, 2011, under the aegis of Hon. Shri Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Chief Minister of Haryana.

While the sedan hit the roads in India in May 2011, the small car made its debut in October; both vehicles have been crafted as per the trademark fluidic design theme adopted by Hyundai India. The fluidic concept renders the two vehicles the look of being in constant motion through contrasting surfaces; both these cars have set the bar higher for design, space, quality interiors and mileage.

It holds the enviable positions of second biggest passenger car manufacturer of India and largest passenger car exporter. The company has made waves ever since it forayed in the domestic market, first with its iconic Santro and now with these two new cars. Presently, the auto manufacturer has eight models plying on Indian roads – four hatchbacks (Eon, Santro, i10 and the i20), two entry level sedans (Accent and Verna), a premium sedan (Sonata Transform) and a luxury SUV (Santa Fe). Such a portfolio has enabled the company to cement its position among the most recognisable names in the Indian car market.

Hyundai India is a crucial cog in HMC's export plans; the company has successfully exported more than 1 million units in about 10 years since commencing operations in the year 1998. Through HMIL, the Korean manufacturer is able to export vehicles to over 120 countries based across EU, Africa, Middle East, Latin America and the Asia Pacific. Owing to its production prowess, the company has been the one exporter of passenger vehicles in India for six successive years.

In order to fulfil the expectations of the customers though an unparalleled range of products, HMIL has set up a fully integrated production plant near Chennai. All manufacturing, quality assessment and testing processes are carried out at this state-of-the-art plant. In order to meet the steadily increasing demand for its cars, the company decided to set up a new plant with annual installed capacity of 3,30,000 units in February 2008. The company has also established an advanced multi-million dollar Research and Development unit at Hyderabad, which will become the centre of excellence for the field of automobile engineering. The company has a vast dealership network of 338 dealers and 737 service centres based in various parts of the country, which has proved to be vital for its growth.
