      Hyundai Ioniq claims full five-stars at ASEAN NCAP

      The Ioniq hybrid by Hyundai is the latest car to be tested by the ASEAN NCAP. The hybrid sedan has scored a full five-star rating with an overall 91.98 points in the latest round of crash tests. The Ioniq is the world’s first hybrid to be offered with three powertrain options - pure electric, plug-in hybrid and standard hybrid.

      Except for the optional blind spot technology, the Ioniq gets standard safety equipment such as ABS with EBD, seven airbags, forward collision warning, lane departure and lane-keep assist. In the tests, the vehicle scored 46.34 points out of 50 for Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) category, 21.48 points out 25 for Child Occupant Protection (COP) and 24.17 points out of 25 for Safety Assist Technologies (SATs).

      The Kappa 1.6GDI, four-cylinder engine powers the hybrid and the plug-in hybrid versions. Mated to a six-speed double clutch transmission, it generates 103bhp of power and 147Nm of torque. The electric motor generates about 43bhp of power and 170Nm of torque which combined with the conventional engine generates about 139bhp of power and 265Nm of torque.
