      Hyundai India sales rise 2.04 percent during May

      Hyundai Motors India Limited (HMIL), the largest car exporter and second largest car maker in the Indian market, has registered a moderate sales increase of 2.04 per cent during the month of May 2011. The company sold a total of 47,766 units of its vehicles during the month as compared to 46,808 units sold in the same month last year.

      HMIL reported a surge of 14.62 per cent in its domestic sales to 31,123 units as against 27,151 units sold in the same month last year. On the other hand the company’s exports dipped to 16,643 units in May as compared to 19,657 units dispatched to the foreign markets in May 2010, accounting for a sales increase of 15.33 per cent.

      “The market has slowed down considerably after the first quarter of the year because of increasing interest rates and rising fuel prices among other factors,” said HMIL Director (marketing and Sales) Arvind Saxena said.

      The recently unveiled Fluidic Verna performed considerably well in the month, as company has received over 12,000 booking for the car, so far.

      The segment wise sales of the company was as follows - A2 segment (Santro i10 and i20) - 40,520 units; A3 segment (Accent and Verna) - 7,110 units; A5 segment (Sonata Transform) - 14 units. The SUV Santa Fe of the company registered total sales of 122 units during the month.
