Hyundai India, the largest exporter and second largest car maker in India, unveiled the Xcent compact sedan in India. This marks Hyundai’s entry in the compact sedan segment in India. Hyundai will officially launch the Xcent in March and will announce different engine options along with variants.

The Xcent will be available in both petrol and diesel engine options as well as in manual and automatic transmissions. Hyundai claims that the Xcent is a world class product developed for India. The Xcent will have optimum performance, efficient engine and will also offer great number of features which are first of its kind in the segment. The Hyundai Xcent’s design is based on the fluidic philosophy which is now a family Hyundai trait. Seen from the design, it clearly looks inspired from the Grand i10 hatch.

Hyundai has managed to raise indigenization of child parts by 90% thus making it a competitive product. The officials have also confirmed that the Xcent will be the best value for money proposition in its segment. Xcent comes in and replaces the Accent. The X in the name gives the car a young and exuberant feel. The company wishes to bank on the legacy of Accent sedan.

The sub 4 metre compact sedan segment is growing very rapidly at 39% and that was the main reason encouraging Hyundai to take part in it. This segment has a potential of 24,000 units. There is sufficient reason for Hyundai to believe that the Grandi10 based sedan will be as successful as the hatchback. Hyundai launched the Grandi10 hatch in September and it has managed to do a fantastic figure of 51,000 units. There are no definite volumes that Hyundai is looking at the moment and will produce as the demand grows.

The 2014 Auto Expo starts tomorrow and car makers are already raising expectations by unveiling their products. Tata, Ford and today Hyundai have all shown their offerings in compact sedan segment. It clearly is an indicator that this segment is getting as popular as hatchbacks were earlier. The Tata Zest, Ford Figo Concept and Hyundai Xcent will all aggressively compete against each other. If Tata has modern styling and Ford has technology, Hyundai claims to be the best as a package. As a consumer, the real deal happens when these cars battle it out after launched.
